For years now, Japanese developer Falcom has been delivering a new game every 12 months or so, with an almost exclusive focus on two of its most popular properties: The Legend of Heroes (commonly known these days as Trails is) and Y.S. However, now that Falcom’s titles are starting to hit hard in the West – giving the company its most reach ever – it looks like it’s time to start expanding the Falcom portfolio.

In a new interview we did with Falcom president Toshihiro Kondo (which we’ll be publishing in the very near future), we’re told that the company wants to “show fans something completely new that’s not in any Y. Or. Trail Series”. Kondo explained: “We’re working on it right now.”

Recently, there have been rumors (and possible hints) that Falcom is going to continue Tokyo Xanadu in some form. The original 2015 game was an action RPG in the same vein as modern Ys titles, but it also placed a heavy emphasis on character-driven storytelling, as you’d expect from a Trails release.

We don’t know if that rumored project is what Kondo is referring to, but he did use the term “brand new” in response to our question about Falcom’s immediate future.
