Xbox, Nintendo reportedly join Sony in skipping E3

Platform holders will not be bothered with the presence on Microsoft and Nintendo E3 2023 Show floor according to a new report IGN. The addition of Sony — which hasn’t attended the convention since 2018 — raises more questions about what the expo will look like as RedPop takes over management of the event. That doesn’t stop the three companies from hosting livestreamed events around E3, but it looks like first-party titles won’t be playable on the E3 showfloor.

Microsoft has already confirmed that it will host a showcase in the summer, and Nintendo will likely have a direct to reveal more Switch titles. Sony has a State of play Its sleeve for June, or even a big one PlayStation Showcase. None of these events require a presence at E3 to take place, so the decision not to attend affects the credibility of the expo and who is going more than anything else.

Last year, Geoff Keighley hosted a small alternative in the form of press days around E3 Summer Game Fest The branding will return this year, so it will be interesting to see if Sony, Microsoft, or Nintendo have their games instead.

Last year, ReadPop talked about wanting to “reinstate the traditional E3 week”. However, without three key platform holders on board, it looks like an already daunting task that has become even more daunting.
