Overwatch 2 is right around the corner, and Blizzard recently marked the occasion with a fun launch trailer. It showcases old and new characters with a mix of gameplay and CG, and we’re sure fans will be excited to finally get their hands on the shooter on October 4th. Interestingly, though, it seems that some heroes will be turned off until you put in enough time.
In a new blog post, Blizzard explains how the game will introduce its characters and modes to new players. Essentially, new Overwatch 2 players won’t have access to everything from launch, in an effort to show that all of the game has to be introduced slowly. First, the game will introduce all its modes quite quickly, as well as the ability to chat in the game. Then, over the course of 100 matches, playable characters will gradually become available one by one. This is so players can get to grips with each hero, rather than being overwhelmed by a 35-strong roster from the start.
It is important to point out that not every player will have to go through this process; This will be applicable only on accounts on or after 4th October. In other words, if you have an Overwatch account, you’ll be able to access everything as usual. Even friends who party together will not be restricted by these measures. The game will be free-to-play, though, meaning a lot of new players, so it ultimately seems like a smart idea.
