With the release of Overwatch 2 next month, Blizzard is making some pretty big changes to the way the game handles progression – and not all of them are sitting well with longtime fans of the franchise. Specifically, it was revealed that in order to unlock the new hero Kiriko for free, you’ll need to reach Tier 55 on the game’s Battle Pass.
Now obviously it’s impossible to predict how long it will take until the title is out, but we do know that you’ll need 10,000 XP to reach tier two – and you’ll only need 9,000 to complete three daily challenges. XP will be earned. Of course, there will certainly be other ways to earn XP, but we’d still expect it to take several hours to get to Tier 55.
Of course, you’ll be able to buy Kiriko outright if you want – that’s just for those who want to play for free. For example, if you buy the Premium track of the Battle Pass, you’ll instantly unlock the newbie, and all the extra rewards available when you level up, including an epic skin, five epic skins, and a customizable mythic skin. .
It’s worth repeating that Overwatch 2 will be free-to-play, so it needs to make money somehow. However, some fans are disappointed that there are now strings attached to the new heroes, when this was not the case before. Fortunately, if you already own Overwatch, you’ll be eligible to redeem a Founder’s Pack, which includes instant access to Kiriko. But moving forward, you’ll need to agree to these changes to progress.
