Leicester City have now contacted OGC Nice over a potential last-ditch move for Jean-Clair Todibo, amid interest from Everton, ahead of Wesley Fofana’s imminent switch to Chelsea.

Leicester hold Nice talks over Everton target Todibo ahead of Fofana to Chelsea

According to Foot Mercato, Leicester City have now tested the waters for a deal with OGC Nice for Jean-Clair Todibo. Brenden Rodgers has sought to sound out the conditions for his arrival at the King Power Stadium with Wesley Fofana now on the verge of joining Chelsea.

Todibo has spent the past 18 months at the Allianz Riviera after arriving in an initial loan in January 2021. Nice would later pay Barcelona an initial €8.5m (£7.5m), rising €7m (£6m) in add-ons, to keep the 22-year-old, who agreed to a five-year contract running to June 2026.

Nice are now keen to extend his commitment to Les Aiglons, while Todibo is waiting to see what offer Lucien Favre’s outfit makes. But the Ligue 1 team may have to improve their bid with Leicester also sniffing around the former France U20 international to replace Fofana.

Leicester have in recent hours held talks with Nice to sound out what it would take to coax the 6 ft 2 enforcer to England. Foot Mercato previously cited a valuation in excess of €20m (£17m) in July with Sevilla, Napoli, Newcastle and Manchester United interested in a move.

Reports by Nice-Matin (15/7, p46) also credited Everton with an interest in signing Todibo from Nice this summer. The French version of Goal also claimed that the Toffees were the most likely suitor to sign the centre-half, who only played five games while with Barcelona.

Todibo revived still raw career at the Allianz Riviera after Camp Nou struggles

Nice would be loath to let Todibo leave the Allianz Riviera so late in the window and take a key part of Favre’s defense away, should Leicester advance their interest in a move for the Everton target to replace Fofana. The Athletic claim Fofana is due to join Chelsea for £70m.

While Todibo was a flop at the Camp Nou, the youngster has revived his still raw career on the coast by the Mediterranean sea. He is a formidable presence in the Nice line, offering a robust physique at centre-back and one Favre sorely missed against Marseille last Sunday.

Todibo sat out Nice’s 3-0 defeat at home to Les Phoceens after receiving two yellow cards in a 1-0 defeat to Clermont Foot. He had started all three of their opening Ligue 1 matches this season prior to hosting Marseille, and also opened 35 of his 36 appearances last term.
