This change was made after the Pollution Control Board’s complaint reached senior officials in the department regarding pollution from the Katiya fire. The department launched the campaign at the onset of the heat in the direction of controlling the theft of electricity from Katia in the district. Katia’s metal cables, captured during the campaign, were burned on the spot.

In the instructions given to the chief engineer, MD Vidya Bhushan said that instead of burning the katiya, it should be cut into pieces. Following this order, the department changed the name of the campaign. Briefing on the matter, the chief engineer of the electricity department, Vinod Kumar, said that the fire operation in Katiya had been stopped. Now the order has come to cut into pieces the wire and cable caught in the theft of electricity.

Of these, about 3.5 lakh are in urban areas while the rest are in rural areas.
