America: Gunfire between car racing gangs in Chicago, 3 dead, 2 in critical condition

Washington. Three people were killed and two seriously injured in a shooting at a Chicago intersection on Sunday. According to police officials, the attack was carried out during a drag racing caravan of more than 100 cars. Three men died in the shooting. Two are 20 years old and the age of one has not been disclosed, while two were seriously injured, aged 19 and 21.

Police officers were responding to complaints from a drag racing caravan at a press conference. Chicago Police Department Commander Don Jerome said around 4 a.m. the shooting began at an intersection in the city’s southwest Brighton Park neighborhood. Jerome said he received reports that several cars were speeding between an intersection and moving in tight circles. A hundred cars had regained control of the intersection in the middle of the road. Later, officers received the ShotSpotter (Gunshot Detection System) gunshot detection alert.

Officers from one of the police department’s Strategic Decision Support Centers were monitoring the incident through a live video feed. As ABC News reports, at least 13 shots were fired at the intersection, with some suddenly falling to the ground after firing began.

When the police arrived at the scene without delay, they found that five people had been shot and all were taken to hospital in private vehicles. According to Jerome, four people with gunshot wounds were taken to Holy Cross Hospital and one to Mount Sinai Hospital. Upon arriving at the hospital, three people were declared dead, while the condition of two of them remains critical. Police said two 20-year-old men were also among the dead. Authorities did not reveal the age of the third person, although the two injured are 19 and 21 years old. Jerome said more than one gunman was involved. However, the police are still looking for the culprits.
