Oakland. At least six people were injured in a shooting at a school in Oakland, Calif., on Wednesday. According to Alameda County Sheriff’s spokesman Lt. Ray Kelly, the shooting is over. Oakland Fire Department spokesman Michael Hunt said paramedics took six patients to the hospital. All the people were injured by the bullets. Oakland Mayor Libby Schaff tweeted that all of the injured were adults and that the shooting took place at the K-12 Alternative School, Sojourner Truth Independent Study.

Officials did not say whether any of the victims could be students aged 18 or older. Officials said three of the injured were taken to Highland Hospital in Oakland in critical condition. The other three were taken to Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley and their condition was not known. Television footage showed dozens of police cars and yellow tape on the road in front of the school and students leaving surrounding campuses. City council member Treva Reid said investigators told her the shooting may be linked to increased “group and gang violence”.

Oakland Police Captain Casey Johnson confirmed in a brief press conference that six people had been shot and did not answer any questions. City council member Lauren Taylor, who was outside the school, declined to confirm details of the incident. “The weapons were in the premises of our school where our children were to be protected,” he told KTVU-TV.
