North Korea’s official Korean Central News Agency reported on Tuesday that Kim Jong-un chaired a meeting of the ruling Workers’ Party Central Military Commission on Monday and urged the armed forces to “always” open a new development phase, according to the news agency. The agency said that the members of the commission discussed a series of actions aimed at inducing changes in the army. This includes “continued expansion and intensification of combat operations and exercises” and “more vigorous completion of preparations for war”.

The meeting comes as North Korea prepares for a massive military parade in the capital Pyongyang on Wednesday to mark the 75th anniversary of the founding of the Korean People’s Army.
