Anti-Indian slogans once again written on Hindu temple in Canada, fourth such incident in a year, embassy calls for action
Outaouais: The Consulate General of India in Toronto on Tuesday (local time) condemned the defacement of the Ram Temple in Mississauga with anti-Indian graffiti. The Indian Embassy has called on Canadian authorities to investigate the incident and take prompt action against the perpetrators. The Consulate General of India has given information in this regard by tweeting. This is not the first time that a Hindu temple in Canada has been defaced with anti-Indian slogans and images. Earlier, in January, anti-Indian paintings were painted on a Hindu temple in Brampton, sparking outrage among the Indian community.
The Indian Consulate General in Toronto had condemned the vandalism at the Gauri Shankar Temple, saying the act hurt the feelings of the Indian community in Canada. The consulate office said in a statement: “We strongly condemn the defacement of the Gauri Shankar Temple, a symbol of Indian heritage in Brampton, with anti-Indian graffiti. We have expressed our concern about this to the Canadian authorities. Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown also condemned the vandalism and said Canadian authorities are investigating the incident. Patrick tweeted: “This disgusting and shameful act has no place in our city or our country.” I raised my concerns about this heinous crime with Peel Regional Police Chief Nishan Duraiyappa.

Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown said, “Everyone deserves to feel safe in their place of worship. Earlier in September 2022, the BAPS Swaminarayan Temple in Canada was defaced with anti-Indian graffiti by “Canadian Khalistan extremists”. Indian-Canadian MP Chandra Arya tweeted: “The vandalism of Toronto’s BAPS Shree Swaminarayan Temple by Canadian Khalistani extremists should be condemned by all. This is not just an isolated incident. Hindu temples in Canada have been the target of such hate crimes in recent times. Canadian Hindus are legitimately worried. A statue of Mahatma Gandhi was vandalized in July 2022 at Vishnu Temple in Richmond Hill in the Greater Toronto Area. In both cases, pro-Khalistan slogans were painted on the temple and vandalism was promoted on social media by pro-Pakistan handles.
