Phnom Penh. Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar met his Ukrainian counterpart Dimitro Kuleba on Saturday. The two leaders discussed recent developments in the region, nuclear concerns and ways to end Russia’s war against Ukraine. Jaishankar met Kuleba on the sidelines of the ASEAN-India summit in the Cambodian capital. He tweeted: “Nice to meet Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dimitro Kuleba. Our discussions focused on recent developments in the conflict, grain export initiatives and nuclear concerns.

Jaishankar’s meeting with Kuleba comes days after his two-day visit to Russia amid growing global concerns over the Russian-Ukrainian war. It was Jaishankar’s first visit to Moscow after the outbreak of war in Ukraine in February. Jaishankar is visiting with Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar. He is leading the Indian delegation to the ASEAN-India Summit and the 17th East Asia Summit here. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Kuleba said on Twitter that they discussed bilateral cooperation and ways to end Russia’s war against Ukraine.

Kuleba tweeted: “My Indian counterpart Jaishankar and I met to discuss bilateral cooperation and ways to end Russia’s war against Ukraine. I stressed that Russia must immediately stop the deadly attacks All Ukrainian troops must withdraw and commit to peace We have also focused on global food security.

Crisis must be resolved through dialogue – India
India has yet to condemn the Russian invasion of Ukraine and has always maintained that the crisis should be resolved through diplomacy and dialogue. Since the start of the Ukrainian conflict in February, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has spoken on several occasions with Russian President Vladimir Putin as well as with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

India also said that the suspension of the grain export initiative through the Black Sea is expected to pose food security, fuel and fertilizer supply challenges facing the world, especially in the southern part of the world. This initiative resulted in the export of more than 9 million tons of cereals and other food products from Ukraine. Jaishankar held lengthy talks with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov and Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov during his visit to Moscow from November 7-8.
