Jakarta, A powerful earthquake in Indonesia shook the most populous island of Java. According to the United States Geological Survey, a magnitude 7.0 earthquake struck off the north coast of Java in Indonesia on Friday. The earthquake was recorded around 3:25 p.m. in the ocean 96 km north of Tuban. At present, the Geological Agency of Indonesia has denied the possibility of a tsunami after the earthquake’s epicenter was discovered at a depth of 594 km. However, there has been no life and property related news so far.
Even in January, the earthquake caused fear
Even in January in Indonesia, a 6.1 magnitude earthquake caused fear. The earthquake’s epicenter was 65 km south-southeast of Gorontalo at a depth of 147 km in the ocean. Tremors were felt in the provinces of Gorontalo, North Sulawesi, North Maluku and Central Sulawesi. Due to Indonesia’s position on the “Ring of Fire” in the Pacific Ocean, the risk of earthquakes is high here.
At least 331 people were killed and around 600 were injured when a 5.6 magnitude earthquake struck the town of Cianjur in West Java on November 21. Previously, around 4,340 people were killed in the 2018 earthquake and tsunami in Sulawesi. Meanwhile, in 2004, a tsunami caused by an extremely powerful earthquake in the Indian Ocean killed more than 2,30,000 people in a dozen countries, most of whom were from Aceh province in Indonesia. .
