California. According to the US Geological Survey (USGS), a magnitude 5.5 earthquake hit the northern California coast on Sunday. However, no damage or injury has been reported in this regard. The USGS said the quake occurred at a depth of 10 km (6 mi) and occurred 108 km (67 mi) west of Petrolia, a community of about 1,000 people in rural Humboldt County.
According to the USGS, the quake was so strong that minor tremors were felt in some other towns in the sparsely populated northern California region. Earthquakes are not new to California. Earthquakes keep coming regularly in this state of America.
The last deadly earthquake in the state was a magnitude 6.4 earthquake that struck just 5 km (3 mi) off the coast of northern California in December 2023, injuring at least a dozen people and killing two.
5.5 magnitude earthquake hits northern California, USA
Earlier, earthquake tremors were repeatedly felt around May 11 in a large area of northern California in the United States, which also caused minor damage. According to the US Geological Survey, a magnitude 5.5 earthquake was felt at 4:19 a.m. on May 11 at the Lake Almanor resort town of the Sierra Nevada in northern California. After that, a magnitude 5.2 earthquake was felt in the same area on May 12 at 03:18.
