Europe imports 6 times more oil from Russia than from India: Foreign Minister Jaishankar bluntly

Vienna. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has defended India’s decision to import crude oil from Russia despite the displeasure of Western powers, saying Europe has imported six times more fossil fuels from Russia than from India. India since February 2022. Jaishankar, who arrived here from Cyprus on the second leg of his two-country tour, also said European political leaders want to minimize the impact of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict on its people, and that’ is a privilege he should grant other political leaders should also.

Jaishankar said so during an interview with Austrian national TV channel ORF on Monday. He said: “Europe has managed to reduce its imports in a comfortable way. If at $60,000 (income per capita) you care that much about your population, then I have a population with an income of $2,000 US. I also need energy and I am unable to pay the high price of oil.

Why didn’t Europe cut Moscow’s electricity on February 25?
Jaishankar also said that since February 2022, Europe has imported six times more energy from Russia than from India. He answered a question: “If it was a matter of principle, why didn’t Europe cut Moscow’s electricity on February 25?” India’s desire for Russian oil has increased since Moscow started offering it at a discount because the West gave up its oil to punish Russia for its invasion of Ukraine.

Western countries have asked India to give up Russian oil.
It should be noted that Russia started attacking Ukraine on February 24, 2022 and since then Western countries are asking countries to sacrifice Russian oil to punish it. The Indian government has strongly defended its oil trade with Russia, saying it will buy oil where it is cheapest.
