New York. Tech giant Google is laying off 12,000 of its employees. After that, a software engineer named Jeremy Joslin, who has worked at Google since 2003, was fired. The company gave him this news via email.
In a tweet, Joslin wrote, “I find it hard to believe that after working for 20 years at Google, I suddenly learned of my last day via email. What an insult. I wish I could meet everyone and say goodbye. In a LinkedIn post, Joslin said, “I never thought this would happen.”
Significantly, the company’s CEO, Sundar Pichai, had announced on January 20 that technology company Google would lay off 12,000 employees worldwide. Earlier, other giant tech companies – Microsoft, Facebook and Amazon – also laid off employees amid the global economic downturn.
In an email sent to employees, Indian-born CEO Pichai said: “I share with you some difficult news. We have decided to cut approximately 12,000 positions in the company. Pichai said the decision to lay off Google employees was made after a rigorous review of operations. He said jobs were being cut across Alphabet, product areas, operations, at different levels and sectors.
Pichai said the company had made appointments during a period of significant growth over the past two years, but economically the circumstances were different then than now. The technology company had grown rapidly during the Corona outbreak.
