gunmen attack police station in mexico guanajuato celaya several dead and injured in exchange for fire dpk – Reuters

Mexico: Gunmen opened fire on a police station in north-central Mexico state of Guanajuato on Sunday and police returned fire, killing several people. Celaya city police said several assailants were also killed, but did not give exact figures. The attack took place in a town on the outskirts of Celaya. Celaya Police Chief Jesus Rivera said three officers were injured in the attackers’ fire, but their injuries were not life-threatening. In none of Mexico’s 32 states are there as many incidents of violence and murder as in Guanajuato. The state has witnessed years of violent conflict between local gangs backed by the Jalisco Cartel and its rival, the Sinaloa Cartel.

The drug trade is rampant in Guanajuato, so incidents of attacks, murders, and shootings continue to emerge from here. Earlier, on November 10, a shooting was uncovered from Guanajuato in which nine people were killed and two others injured. Police officials said five men and four women died in the shooting. Even earlier, the shooting incident was revealed from the Mexican town of Irapuato. Unknown gunmen opened fire on ordinary people, killing 12 people. Among them, 6 women and 6 men.

Guanajuato, an industrial city in Mexico, is considered a major manufacturing hub and production site for many of the world’s largest automakers. But the past few years have been wracked by turf wars between cartels. Last month, 12 people were killed in a bar in the town of Irapuato. Meanwhile, 10 people were killed in a shooting in September. Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador took office in 2018 promising to reduce cartel violence. After that, there is a slight drop in murders in 2022. However, López Obrador’s tenure is on course to be the deadliest in modern history.
