Hippo swallows 2-year-old child alive, spits rocks back into lake

Kampala: In a shocking incident in the African country of Uganda, a hippo attacked a 2-year-old child. According to the CNN report, Ugandan police said in a statement that the incident happened on December 4, around 3 p.m. Ega Paul used to play near Rewenjubu Cell lake, located in the Katwe-Kabatoro district in the south-west of the country. Then the hippo came out of the water and attacked him and started swallowing the child. A man named Crispas Bagonja, who was present at the scene, started throwing stones at the hippopotamus, then he got scared and spat the child out of his mouth.

Fearing the stone’s wound, the hippopotamus returned to the lake. According to Ugandan police, this is the first such incident in which a hippo has swallowed a child. However, thanks to the courage of Crispas Bagonja, the child’s life was saved. According to the police, the child had been injured by the teeth of a hippopotamus. He was taken to a nearby clinic for treatment and then transferred to Bawera Hospital in western Uganda. The child is now discharged from hospital after fully recovering. Ega Paul was also vaccinated against rabies before being returned to his parents.

A hippo’s jaw is so strong that it can snap a canoe (small boat) in half by squeezing it in its mouth.
