Washington. The White House said the United States will work with India to promote a “free and open Indo-Pacific” and to provide opportunity, security, freedom and dignity to its people. White House Press Secretary Jean Pierre Caron told reporters at a daily press briefing on Tuesday that India and the United States are partners in many important areas, including defence, vaccines, climate and technology.

Asked how the United States can help make India a developed nation within the next 25 years or by 2047, Pierre said people-to-people contacts between the two countries are increasing. In response to a question, Pierre said America will work with India to bring opportunity, security, freedom and dignity to its people.

Amid China’s aggressive approach to the region, he said, “The United States continues to work with India to move forward toward a free and open Indo-Pacific region and to address the challenges facing two countries in the world”. This is the commitment of our partnership with India.”

China is involved in territorial disputes in the South China Sea and the East China Sea. China claims sovereignty over the entire South China Sea. However, Vietnam, Malaysia, the Philippines, Brunei and Taiwan have their own claims on this.
