nairobi, Four members of a church in Kenya died of hunger and love, who were told to starve to meet Jesus. Kenyan police have opened an investigation into the deaths of four people believed to have died of starvation following orders from a controversial cult leader. Police found 15 frail parishioners and beggars at the property of the said sect leader, who pastored a church in the coastal area of Kilifi.
Police identified the pastor as Makenzie Nthenge who asked his followers to starve themselves to meet Jesus and earn a place in heaven. When authorities found them, most followers could barely stand, walk or even speak. The police report states: “A team led by SCPC and SCCIO Malindi attended the scene to investigate. The team was able to reach some houses and managed to rescue around fifteen people, six of whom were vulnerable.
A security official told the Nation of Kenya media group that they found him in very poor condition, with others fainting on the way to hospital. Police said they launched the operation after being tipped off that ‘ignorant’ Good News International Church worshipers were ‘starving themselves’ on the pretext that they would meet Jesus after being brainwashed by a suspect. Of the 15 rescued, only 11 made it to the hospital alive. Local law enforcement is currently investigating reports of a mass grave in a nearby forest. It is suspected that the controversial priest may have buried several of his dead followers in the cemetery.
