The Trump family have been charged with fraud after an investigation into their family business – the Trump Organization in New York. Prosecutors say the Trump Organization committed multiple acts of fraud between 2011 and 2021. However, Trump called the lawsuit a “witch hunt.”

Two Trump Organization officials, Alan Weiselberg and Jeffrey McConkey, were named as defendants, along with the former president and his eldest children, Donald Jr., Ivanka and Eric Trump.

The New York Attorney General filed the case

The lawsuit was filed by New York Attorney General Letitia James, the state’s most senior attorney, after a three-year civil investigation. James said in a statement that with the help of his children and senior Trump Organization officials, Donald Trump unjustly amplified billions of dollars in wealth to unjustly enrich himself and betray the system. He says Donald Trump is Trump’s own flat in Trump Tower, which was valued at $327m (£288m). It was one of the properties whose values ​​would have been distorted.
