Washington. SpaceX CEO Elon Musk said he would activate the company’s satellite internet service, Starlink, for free internet service in Iran. Musk’s response came in response to a tweet from US Secretary of State Antony Blinken. In which it was said that America should take steps to advance the free internet and the free flow of information for Iranians. Protests continue in Iran after the death of a 22-year-old woman in police custody. Meanwhile, the US Treasury Department issued guidelines to increase internet services available to Iranians despite US sanctions on Iran.
According to a Reuters news agency, a finance department official told reporters that our information on Starlink indicates that the service provided will be of commercial quality. And it will be material that is not included in the general license. So for this they have to write to the Treasury. While a spokesperson for the US State Department said that if SpaceX believes the Iranians need a specific license for internet service, it will be welcome and a priority. A State Department spokesperson said if SpaceX says its activity is already licensed and it has questions, it’s always welcome.

While media could not reach Musk for comment or clarification regarding Starlink’s approval to work in Iran, it should be noted that Mahsa Amini was arrested by ethics police for not wearing of hijab. Elon Musk, however, said on Monday that his company wanted to provide Starlink satellite broadband service to Iranians.
