Pakistan flood: US announces $30 million in flood relief to Pakistan

The United States of America announced a US$30 million grant to Pakistan on Tuesday. Pakistan is currently facing the worst flooding in its history. Over a thousand people lost their lives in a single flood and thousands of homes were destroyed. Pakistan’s economy has also suffered a major setback due to this crisis. To avert this crisis, Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is seeking help from around the world. The same few countries have come forward to help Pakistan. Also, America has provided this aid to fight disasters in Pakistan as it is the biggest flood in the history of Pakistan.

US Secretary of State Tony Blinken said, “We stand with Pakistan at this difficult time. “As Pakistan reels from horrific and devastating floods, the United States – through USAID – is providing $30 million in lifesaving humanitarian assistance, such as food, clean water and shelters.”

State Department senior deputy spokesman Vedanta Patel told reporters on a conference call that about 33 million people have been affected by the flooding, killing more than 1,100 and injuring more than 1,600.

According to reports, more than 10 lakh houses were destroyed along with floods also destroyed roads and farmers also suffered badly. Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, co-chair of the Congressional Pakistan Caucus, said more than 30 million people have been affected by the devastation of the floods.

USAID (United States Agency for International Development) informed that this fund will be used for food, nutrition, no more money needed, clean water, better sanitation and life support. Patel said: “We are deeply saddened by the losses caused by this devastating flood in Pakistan. In this disaster, many people died and many became homeless. We stand together at this difficult time in Pakistan.
