Colombian aviation officials said in a statement that the plane crashed after taking off from Olaya Herrera airport.

According to the AP news agency, the dead in the accident were identified as six passengers and two crew members. The exact cause of the accident is not yet known. Medellin Mayor Daniel Quintero said in a statement that the plane reported engine failure during takeoff and after which the crash occurred. Quintero further stated that unfortunately the pilot lost control of the plane and the plane crashed near the runway.

He added that seven houses were destroyed and six other buildings were damaged in the crash. Quintero said immediately after the incident, firefighters and other emergency personnel took the lead. The plane, a twin-engine Piper PA-31, was heading to the western department of Chocó. We may know that a month ago, Colombia suffered a horrific bus accident. 20 people died in this bus accident.
