Moscow, The body of Andrey Botikov, one of the scientists who helped create the Russian Covid-19 vaccine Sputnik V, has been found in his apartment. According to a report by the PTI news agency, Botikov was strangled to death with a belt. Police have arrested a suspect in connection with the murder. Russian news agency TASS quoted the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation as saying that Mr Botikov, 47, who worked as a senior researcher at the Gamaleya National Research Center for Ecology and Mathematics, was found died in his apartment on Thursday.

Russian President Vladimir Putin honored the virologist with the Order of Merit to the Fatherland in 2021 for his work on the COVID-19 vaccine. According to reports, Botikov was one of 18 scientists who developed the Sputnik V vaccine in 2020. On the other hand, while giving information about the criminal, the police said that a 29-year-old strangled Botikov with a belt during the argument and fled. Law enforcement said the murder was a domestic crime and the result of a personal dispute.

The Federal Investigation Agency said in a statement that shortly after Botikov’s body was found, the suspect was arrested (accused arrested). The investigative committee said the assailant’s whereabouts were located in a short time. During his interrogation, he confessed to the charges.
