Ukraine has taken this step for the first time since the Russian invasion began in February
Kyiv. The Russian-Ukrainian war has entered the new year. Ukraine has imposed sanctions on 182 people and companies from Russia and Belarus since the Russian offensive began in February last year. President Volodymyr Zelensky made this decision so that his country’s ties with Moscow and Minsk could end and they could use their strengths in their own defense.
According to Reuters, Zelensky said in a video address: “His assets in Ukraine have been blocked, his assets will be used for our defense.” According to a list published by the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, the sanctioned companies were mainly involved in the transport of goods, the rental of vehicles and chemical production. The list includes Russian potash fertilizer producer and exporter Uralkali, Belarusian state-owned potash producer Belaruskali, Belarusian Railways, as well as Russian companies VTB-Leasing and Gazprombank Leasing, two entities specializing in the leasing of transportation.
