Thiruvananthapuram: Scientists at the University of California, San Francisco Medical Center have discovered that cancer cells that come into contact with healthy brain cells become overactive, leading to rapid cognitive loss in patients. Sometimes he even dies. This study could make a big difference in the treatment of cancerous brain tumours.

The team, led by Indian scientist Sarita Krishna, also found that the drug, used to treat brain disorders, is also effective in reducing tumor cell overactivity and inhibiting their growth. This study was published in the latest issue of the scientific journal “Nature”.

Scientists have found that the communication between healthy brain cells and cancer cells can be altered to prevent or reduce tumor growth. The study indicates that these results are more beneficial for patients suffering from glioblastoma, which is considered the deadliest type of brain cancer in adults.

Krishna, a resident of Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala, told PTI that these unexpected results show that deadly cancer cells can cause changes in the structure of tissues around the brain that make them hyperactive. This causes cognitive damage to the patient and also shortens their lifespan. The scientists said that this discovery could be useful in finding an effective treatment method for a very deadly disease like glioblastoma.
