Data from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention showed on Friday that this subvariant had doubled over the past week. Dr. Michael Osterholm, an infectious disease specialist at the University of Minnesota, said in a recent interview with Reuters that the worst variant the world is currently facing is actually XBB.

Osterholm said that in 10 US states, where there has been a boom in Corona cases. There has been an increase in XBB cases. By comparison, XBB.1.5 accounted for 44.1% of the total number of cases in the country for the week ending December 31, compared to 21.7% the previous week. The XBB variant is increasing corona cases in parts of Asia, including Singapore. The US agency began reporting separate data for the two subvariants starting this week.
