Dubai. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, vice-president and prime minister of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and ruler of Dubai, renamed the Al Minhad district and its surroundings to “Hind City” on Sunday. The official Emirates news agency, WAM, gave this information.

The city is divided into four sectors and is home to residents of the United Arab Emirates. The city comprises four areas – Hind 1, Hind 2, Hind 3 and Hind 4 – and covers an area of 83.9 km, WAM said. Hind City is connected by major roads like Emirates Road, Dubai Al Ain Road and Jebel Ali-Lehbab Road.

The Al Minhad area and its adjoining areas have been renamed “Hind City” as per the instructions of the Ruler of Dubai. However, this is not the first time that the name of a place in Dubai has been changed. Earlier in 2010, Burj Dubai was renamed Burj Khalifa in honor of Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, then President of the United Arab Emirates and ruler of Abu Dhabi. He died on May 13, 2022.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, who renamed the Al Minhad district to ‘Hind City’, is the Vice President, Prime Minister and Minister of Defense of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) as well as the Ruler of Dubai. He is the third son of Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum, former vice president of the United Arab Emirates and ruler of Dubai.

Following the death of his brother Maktoum in 2006, Mohammed took over as the country’s vice president and ruler of Dubai. Al Maktoum is recognized as “one of the largest real estate developers in the world”.
