Malayar said Ukrainian forces also took over the village of Storozhev in the southern Donetsk region. Ukraine said on Sunday 3 villages were retaken and they were liberated from Russian army occupation.

Malayar said the area under control was 90 square kilometers. Ukraine’s Defense Ministry said its forces advanced “250 to 700 meters” towards the town of Bakhmut.

Russia said earlier on Monday it had repelled Ukrainian attacks in the same area near Velika Novosilka in the Donetsk region. He also said he repelled Ukrainian attacks around the nearby village of Levadne in the neighboring southern region of Zaporizhia.

The American Institute for the Study of War said in an analytical note on Monday that Ukrainian forces had made substantial progress in western Donetsk Oblast and western Zaporizhia Oblast, which Russian sources confirmed. But efforts are being made to reduce it.
