After hearing rebukes from people and large organizations around the world, Elon Musk, the owner of social media platform Twitter, said Friday night that he would restore the Twitter accounts of several journalists. Who was suspended after accusing him of putting his family at risk. The Twitter owner tweeted that “people have spoken”. Accounts that disclosed my location will no longer be suspended. Earlier, Musk had taken a poll on Twitter. In which he was asked if he should restore the suspended account now or in a week. Nearly 59% of the 3.69 million respondents said they should restore accounts now.
Elon Musk has suspended the Twitter accounts of more than half a dozen prominent journalists from The New York Times, CNN and The Washington Post. After that, the European Union and the United Nations had warned Musk expressing his anger at the decision. The European Union said the news about the arbitrary suspension of journalists’ accounts on Twitter is concerning. The influential platform can face heavy fines under European laws. Elon Musk should know that. While a spokesman for UN chief Antonio Guterres called it a dangerous precedent at a time when journalists around the world face censorship, physical threats and worse.

This whole controversy is linked to the suspension of the @ElonJet account tracking Elon Musk’s private jet. Musk said a car carrying one of his children was tracked in Los Angeles. This step was necessary to hold his jet tracking accountable after the incident. Musk had also warned to sue the person who manages this account. In a live Twitter chat, Elon Musk offered no evidence for his claim. But some suspended reporters said everyone was treated the same on Twitter. You are not special because you are a journalist.
