After the results, about 15% of Ukrainian territory could be included in Russia
Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev congratulated on the results
America will bring a resolution to the UN against the results of the referendum
Moscow. The results of the referendums held in the four occupied states in the midst of the war between Ukraine and Russia are in favor of Russia. Officials from Ukraine’s four occupied territories reported that people voted overwhelmingly to join Russia in the referendum. According to a Reuters report, 87% to 99.2% of people voted in favor of joining Russia in the five-day vote in the eastern regions of Donetsk and Lugansk and in Zaporizhzhya and Kherson in the south. These four provinces represent about 15% of the Ukrainian territory.
In view of the results, the United States plans to introduce a resolution against Russia at the United Nations. In this resolution condemning Russia’s unilateral referendum, all countries will be asked not to recognize these regions as part of Russia. Linda Thomas-Greenfield, the US envoy to the UN for the referendum, said the United States would present a resolution to the UN Security Council asking member states not to recognize any change in Ukraine and obliging Russia to withdraw his troops. He added that if Russia’s sham referendum is accepted, it will open a Pandora’s box that we cannot close.
The Russian Parliament will decide on October 4
The head of Russia’s upper house of parliament told state media that the country’s parliament could make a decision on the merger of these four states on October 4. At the same time, the former President of Russia and Deputy Chairman of the country’s Security Council, Dmitry Medvedev, welcomed the decision of the four provinces and welcomed the people to Russia.
However, many countries, including Ukraine, have refused to recognize this decision. The President of Ukraine said in an address to the country that this spectacle in the occupied territories cannot even be called a copy of the referendum.
