More than a year has passed since the Russian-Ukrainian war, but the chances of its end are nowhere in sight. Meanwhile, big news is coming out that discontent among the Russian soldiers is growing rapidly. The Institute for the Study of War says Russian soldiers are now disobeying commanders’ orders, causing problems for Russian President Vladimir Putin’s forces amid the war in Ukraine.

The think tank noted that Russian military bloggers reacted strongly to the dismissal of Colonel General Ivan Popov, commander of the 58th Combined Arms Army, because in an audio released last week, Popov complained directly to Putin about frontline conditions, the Hindustan Times reported. The soldiers of the 7th VDV Division were also warned that they would withdraw from occupied Kherson if Mikhail Teplinsky was arrested. The ISW said it showed how “disobedience among commanders seems to be spreading to some of their soldiers”.

The ISW suggested the challenge was fabricated by Vladimir Putin, who systematically circumvented established chains of command in an effort to achieve quick results. At the same time, Ukrainian military intelligence intercepted a conversation between Russian soldiers.

There are also reports of the dismissal of senior Russian officers, including Major General Vladimir Seliverstov, commander of the 106th Guards (VDV) Airborne Division, Major General Alexander Kornev, commander of the 7th VDV Division, and Major General Ramil Ibatulin, commander of the 90th Tank Division. In this conversation, Russian soldiers talk about the shootings in their brigade. Ukrainian intelligence says it shows the mental state of war-affected Russian soldiers. There are also reports that Russian soldiers are fighting in Ukraine under difficult conditions and some soldiers have even refused to go to the front.
