Russia recently announced that it was lifting a 4-year ban on direct flights to Georgia and Georgians traveling to Russia are visa-free. At the same time, Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili urged Georgian authorities to thwart the Russian initiative, but the airline ignored her appeal and banned her from flying.

Tamaz Gyashvili, who is also the founder of private company Georgian Airways, indirectly targeted Zurabishvili on Sunday, saying she was “not welcome on the plane” and would be banned until she “apologizes to the people of Georgia”.
